Whether your are cooking a quick lunch or having friends over for dinner, here are five pantry food staples you should have on hand:


Brown Rice: rice is a convenient side dish and shines as a main ingredients for many recipes. When choosing a rice it’s best to look for unrefined like brown and organic.


Dried Lentils: cheap and versatile, this is a wonderful staple to have in your pantry. Super nutritious and the perfect base for a meal lentils are also a great meat substitute, there are many varieties available so mix it up and find the one that is right for you.


Canned Tomatoes: a great base for a wide range of recipes, they can be used in soups, stews, curries and many popular Italian dishes. Organic is always best and look for the ones that are packed in non-BPA-lined cans or glass jars.


Olive Oil: a good quality olive oil is essential in cooking and using the right one provides plenty of depth and flavour. Full of antioxidants and heart-healthy fats olive oil is very versatile and can reused in pretty much everything from salad dressings to searing meats and pan-frying.
